How to Host Your 1st Friendsgiving/Holiday Party

Step 1: Make a List and Stick to it
Making lists will definitely save you time and money in the long run. I made several lists of things I needed to buy, and I also made a list of things I needed to have done around my apartment. Lists can help you figure out what needs to be done and when! (It also feels good to cross things off your list)

Step 2: Don’t do Everything by Yourself
When I started planning, I was under the impression that the host had to provide everything. I had never attended a Friendsgiving, and was unaware of what my guests expected of me. Luckily one of my best friends clued me in, and informed me that Friendsgivings are usually done potluck style. This is key because you will save tons of money and time, and you also get an awesome variety of food!

Step 3: Make a Facebook Group or Use Evites
I used Facebook to invite all my friends because most everyone nowadays has an account, and it’s super easy to set up. (just use the “create event” button located in Events) The best part about it, is that people could instantly RSVP. The group can also be used for assigning roles/seeing what everyone is brining so you don’t have 2 of the same dishes. You could always send out formal invites in the mail, but it’s a hassle and it can get expensive!

Step 4: Invest in Serveware
The day of my Friendsgiving, is when I realized I did not own a single piece of Serveware. Serveware includes anything that is used to serve food such as platters, bowls, trays, and serving spoons/forks. I got the majority of my serveware pictured above at Home Goods and Ross.

Step 5: Make a Signature Holiday Cocktail or Punch
Having some sort of signature drink, will make your party one to remember. I made a naughty punch and a nice punch. I highly suggest having both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks at your event to make everyone feel comfortable! (Try this beverage dispenser)

Step 6: Add Your Personal Touch
I had originally planned to decorate my apartment with streamers and even a Friendsgiving banner, but I ended up running out of time (typical me). Instead I used my plastic utensils and buffet set up as decoration. Instead of using plastic solo cups, I used mason jars, which can be found at any Target or Wal-Mart. I purchased gold and silver utensils and placed them (strategically…don’t laugh) in mason jars. I also opted for more decorative plates and napkins. All plastic utensils pictured above can be found at any Target.

Step 7: Don’t Forget to Enjoy Yourself!
This sounds like a stupid step, but it’s not! Planning a Friendsgiving, or Holiday party can be stressful at times, and it’s easy to get caught up in the details. Your friends and family will love you for bringing everyone together, regardless of how many gold streamers you put up!
