Christmas Tree Essentials

I remember being completely lost when buying and decorating my first christmas tree. I went to several stores trying to find the right size tree, the best lights to use, and the ever ending hunt for ornaments. I’ve decided to list some helpful hints when it comes to finding the right tree, and adding the perfect decorations for your style.

  • Start Early

I was the girl at Target 2 weeks before Christmas trying to buy a tree (don’t be that girl). I had just moved into my 1st apartment and buying a tree was the last thing on my mind. Let me tell ya, it was slim pickings at both Target and Wal-Mart. Luckily I was able to snag one of the last pre-lit trees. Start shopping for your tree 1-2 months before Christmas for better variety

  • Measurements are Key

Before you start looking for trees, you need to find out what kind of tree is going to work for your living space. First find out where you want to place your tree, then measure out the surrounding areas to ensure the perfect fit, this includes ceilings and floor space.

  • Pick a Theme

I wish I would’ve done this before I started hodge podgeing random ornaments together. I knew I wanted to incorporate bows into my tree, so I found cute candy cane themed bows at target and went from there. I chose ornaments and decor that would complement the bows. Picking a theme will save you time and money. Instead of buying a bunch of random items, a theme will allow you to focus on what you need.

  • Buy Ornaments and Decor AFTER Christmas

Ornaments and decor can get very expensive, especially if you don’t own any to begin with. The best time to buy holiday decor and ornaments is after Christmas because stores are trying to get rid of extra inventory.

  • Save Original Packaging

This will be your saving grace when it comes time to take your tree down. I still have most of the original packaging from the ornaments and decor I used. When taking down the tree, all you have to do is return everything to the original packaging. I then stored all the packages in a large storage container, this will help keep things organized for the next time you decorate your tree.

I hope this guide was helpful to you in some way. I would love to hear your tips when it comes to decorating around the holiday season, leave a comment below!

Style You Later,

Jess
